WHO WE ARE

NSWFTS was formed 31 years ago by six Tamil community language schools , now operating at ten locations in NSW. The aim is to coordinate the common activities of  its member schools  by providing  a syllabus based on the NSW curriculum, teaching materials  for  Tamil language and  promoting culture and values to children of the Tamil migrants.

NSWFTS also conducts a Tamil Proficiency examination annually for the students of its member schools.

There are six Tamil community language schools in NSW who are currently members of the Federation with approximately 3000 students. They are namely:

1. Auburn Tamil Aalayam( ATA)

2. Balar Malar Tamil School with five branches (BM)

3.Mount Druitt Tamil Study Centre (MTSC)

4.Eastwood Tamil Study Centre (ETSC)

5. Tamil Study Centre Homebush (TSCH)

6. Wentworthville Tamil Study centre (WTSC)

Some of our schools conduct classes from preschool to year 12 and other schools only up to year 6.

There are around 300 volunteer teachers and approximately 120 committed volunteers who run these schools at ten locations.

NSWFTS has published texts, work books and teacher guides based on the NSW curriculum. These are used as one of the major teaching materials for the Tamil language all over Australia.

NSWFTS also conduct regular workshops in Tamil and English for the continuing professional development of our member schools’ teachers. We also have a common cultural and sports days to promote mateship among community language schools.
